Pemba's most interesting market, this is a large, sprawling affair that seems to sell everything, from dried fish and live chickens to clothes, spices and – best of all – traditional Makonde woodcarvings.

Located in downtown Maputo, close to the municipal market, the Center for Brazilian Studies always has exhibitions or courses for the Brazilian community in Mozambique and for all visitors.
 

Shoprite is a chain of supermarkets that exists in almost all provinces of Mozambique. 

Papagayo is a wonderful clothes, jewelry, and souvenir shop centrally located in the town of Vilankulo. 
 

Polana Shopping Center is distinguished by being one of the most prestigious commercial spaces of Maputo City offering all types of clothing, shoes, and more!

Machilla Magic is a craft village located in Vilankulo. This fishing village has almost entirely put down their nets and now focus on making and marketing interesting artifacts made from different materials. They make wooden wares, décor pieces, jewelry, baskets, fabrics and barrel, and Pilau work out of recycled materials, coconut, and more. 
 

Tofo Market is a big open market offering locally made goods from carvings to clothes to paintings. 

This is an artist's co-op in Maputo featuring the work of local artists. Much of the work is done by up and coming artists, and a lot of the pieces are for sale. It is a beautiful place for a peaceful afternoon strolling the garden and looking at local artwork. 
 

Even if you don’t think you want to buy crafts, it’s worth stopping in at the excellent Artes Maconde at Avani Pemba Beach Hotel. It sells a wide range of quality carvings, crafts and textiles sourced from throughout Mozambique as well as elsewhere in the region.
