Currency & exchange:

The local currency is the Metical (MZN). The minor unit is the centavos. Banknotes can be found in the following denominations- MZN 20, 50,100,200,500 and 1000. Centavos coins are also legal tender. US Dollars and the South African Rand are widely accepted as well. Visitors can obtain the prevailing exchange rates from any registered Bank. They can also use international Debit and credit cards, MasterCard and Visa. Travellers’ cheques are welcome and tourists can also access ATM’s inmany urban centres and at airports.

Trading hours for most banks and bureau de change are as follows.
Mon – Friday 08.00 to 15.00Hrs
Saturdays – 09.00 to 13.00Hrs
Some Hotel bank branches open as late as 17.00Hours. 
Business Hours 
Most Shops and shopping centres operate during these hours.
Mon – Friday 08.00 to 18.30Hrs
Saturdays – 09.00 to 13.30Hrs
Sundays - 09.00 to 13.00 Hrs            *N.B Selected shops only 
Postal Services
Post offices are found in most urban centres, they provide common postal services like DHL and Express Mail. 
Official Languages
Portuguese is the official language; however, English is also widely spoken in business and tourist resorts. There are 40 local dialects some of these include –  Swahili, Makhuwa, Makonde, Senaand Ndau.
