Mozambique
Mozambique has great whale watching areas spanning almost the whole country from the southern end at Ponto do Ouro all the to Pemba in the North. The humpback whales migrate from Antarctica, where the krill is plentiful, to the South East African coast, seeking warmer waters to mate and calve. This is one of the longest whale migration routes in the world. Some of the best places to go for a chance to see these beautiful creatures are Inhambane, the Bazaruto Archipelago, the Quirimbas Archipelago, and the coast near the province of Vilanculos. These humpback whales tend to have a playful disposition, and so you may get to see some amazing playful behavior on your whale watching tour. These can include lob-tailing, when they smack the water with their tails, spy-hopping, when the whales poke their heads out as if spying on you, flapping their flippers, and sailing, when the whales are unmoving facing downwards, with only their tails sticking out.
