Bazaruto Archipelago
The Bazaruto Archipelago is a group of five islands located in Inhambane Province. This Archipelago is one of the most popular resorts in the country. The islands sit on the warm waters of the Indian Ocean; with clear blue waters, breathtaking scenery and white sand beaches, Bazaruto has been declared a national marine park. Visitors will find sea life such as whales, turtles, dolphins, rays, and a multitude of fish – even a dugong siting if they are lucky. Bazaruto is popular with many Africans from surrounding countries as well as European visitors and it is a must-visit for all.

The Iron House –Casa de Ferro
The Iron House is a historical building located in Maputo. It was opened in 1892 as the official residence for the local governor and it was designed by highly acclaimed architect Gustav Eiffel and transported from the Universal Exhibition of Paris. An interesting piece of architecture, the building is currently used as an admin building.

Gorongosa National Park
Gorongosa National Park is the most popular wildlife park in Mozambique. It measures 3,770 km² and it boasts of a large mammal and bird population. These include Buffalos, elephants, lions, zebra, hippos and so on with hundreds of bird species.  It is located in the Sofala Province which is in the center of the country. Gorongosa is popular because of its biodiversity and because it is the southernmost part of the Great African Rift Valley. The park is also an Environmental success story as it has undergone several years of restoration after a devastating civil war threatened its existence.

The Fort of Fort of São Sebastião/ (St Sebastian)
The fort of Sao Sebastião was constructed in the mid 16th century. It is the oldest intact fort in Sub Saharan African. Forts were popular trading posts and this one was built by Portuguese settlers.

Monte Binga
Monte Binga is the highest peak in Mozambique, it is found on the Chimanimani range, which borders with neighboring Zimbabwe. Monte Binga stands proud at 2,436 m. It is a popular attraction for hikers and offers awesome views as well. There are some animals in the areas well.

The Cathedral of Nossa Senhora de Conceição
The Cathedral of Nossa Senhora de Conceição is another historical building; the name in English means The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. This Catholic Cathedral is found in Maputo and it is an iconic building on the city’s skyline. Opened in 1944, it is impressive, inside and outside. 

 The Quirimbas Islands
The Quirimbas Archipelago lies in the Indian Ocean off northeastern Mozambique. This group of islands is well suited for honeymoons and adventure seekers. The Quirimbas Islands are popular for the following leisure pursuits, Dhow Sailing, Whale watching, snorkeling, diving and so on. Some of the popular islands in the Quirimbas include Quirimba, Matemo, and Ibo. The islands are surrounded by a number of interesting places for tourists to visit.

The Statue of Samora Machel
The statue is a bronze sculpture which is located in the center of Praça da Independencia in Maputo. This monument is a celebration of a Mozambique hero; he is part of Mozambique’s fairly recent history as he was the first president of the country when it attained independence in 1975. The statue was erected in 2011 to honor the revolutionary leader.

Lake Niassa
Lake Niassa is one of Mozambique’s most beautiful resorts. Located in Niassa province (to the northeast of the country) it borders with Tanzania; Mozambique shares the rest of the lake with neighboring Malawi. The lake is the 3rd largest natural lake in Africa. It has clear waters which are absolutely mesmerizing and pristine beaches. Visitors will be attracted to the variety of Wildlife and birdlife found around the lake The beach has some notable coves and the waters have impressive freshwater corals making it a must-visit for snorkeling. The lake is also ideal for fishing and visitors can choose to camp in designated areas to enjoy the full extent of the outdoor experience.

If you are traveling to Mozambique and spending a few days in Maputo one definitely has to pass through the Maputo Central Market. The market gives visitors a glimpse of local day to day life as they can get fresh produce and see what is available. The market offers fresh fish, exotic fruits, nuts & seeds, curios, and clothing.
